Did you know that the winningest team in professional football history was a women’s team? The Toledo Troopers, one of 10 teams it the National Women’s Football league, formed in 1971. The Troopers had a record of 60 wins and 5 losses and were seven-time world champions. Now, a film is being produced right here in Toledo by local screen writers Guy Stout and Steve Guinan and directed by Hollywood producer. This Friday Guy Stout will be with us to share more about the project and the history behind the movie.

There are sign-ups for three events happening now. Click on the links below to register for the event:

District 6600 Rotary Day at the Mudhens on August 1

Perrysburg Rotary Golf Outing on Friday August 15

River Run 5K

Next Friday is our club assembly where we will be voting on some changes to PRSF documents and club bylaws. Please read the full story for more details. See you at Rotary!

Feed our Families provides a nutritious lunch and groceries each Friday during the summer recess to families in NW Wood County who are on the free or reduced school lunch program. Last year approximately 22,000 meals were provided to our area children and their families.

Perrysburg Rotary Service Foundation is a sponsor of this program and in addition to our financial contribution, on Friday July 11th these Rotarians and their family members volunteered at Feed our Families to serve those in our community who need it most. Thanks for serving!

At our annual meeting on December 6, 2013 we will have the opportunity to elect or re-elect three trustees to serve the Perrysburg Rotary Service Foundation. Here is a little more about the candidates:

Over the last few weeks, you have all shown generosity in a big way and it started with our own local initiative to feed families through Perrysburg Christians United Food Pantry. So far we have raised over $1,200 to provide full Thanksgiving dinners to those who would not have a holiday dinner otherwise (We’re still shy of our $1,500 goal so you can contribute Friday with a check payable to PRSF).

Then on November 8th at our meeting in honor of Veteran’s Day, $800 was raised to send two Veterans on a trip with Honor Flight Northwest Ohio to see the veteran memorials in Washington DC. This may be the last flight Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio ever takes. Incredible.

Finally, last Friday, in response to the horrific devastation from Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, we collected over $700 to go towards the purchase of a Shelter Box. That $700 was matched with $1,300 from Perrysburg Rotary Service Foundation for a total of $2,000 in relief to those who desperately need it right now. Read more about what a Shelter Box is later on in the bulletin.

Your generosity of not only time but resources is just another reason that the local Rotary club is so vitally important. When the business and community leaders of Perrysburg join together in a Rotary Club, we make an impact on the world that is not easily replaced. Thanks for being a part of it at all!

Programmatically, Friday’s meeting will feature Andy Stuart from SkyLife Technology and the timing couldn’t be more relevant. SkyLife Packs distribute aerial humanitarian aid for disaster relief. It is a fascinating concept originating right out of Toledo Ohio. You won’t want to miss his presentation.

Last but not least, invitations were mailed last week for our Annual Holiday party on December 13. Please mail your RSVP to Tom Downs or turn in at the back table on Friday. If you did not receive an invitation there will be extras at the meeting you can pick up.

See you at Rotary!

Rotarians,
It’s almost Friday and that means it’s time for another Rotary Club of Perrysburg meeting. This week we will hear from Assistant Zone Coordinator, Dave Perkins. Dave is a member of the Bryan Rotary Club and will share timely information about The Rotary Foundation.

At this morning’s Rotary Club board meeting, a slate of officers was approved and will be passed on to the membership for approval at the annual meeting on December 6, 2013. The slate includes:
Bruce Samuelson
1st Vice President
Chet Welch
2nd Vice President
Laura Moore
Service Project Director

We hope you are as excited as we are about these tremendous Rotarians who have agreed to serve.

In addition to the slate of officers, the following Rotarians wish to be considered for one of the three trustee positions that will be elected. Look for more information in next week’s bulletin about the candidates and the election:

Greg Archambeau
Joanie Asendorf
Barb Herman
Susan Nelson
John Pohlman
Jack Sculfort

Lastly, thank you to all who served last Sunday at the Growing 2 Give Garden. We accomplished far more than the agency had expected and completely finished the process of winterizing the garden. Be sure to check out the pictures of the day at the end of this story.

Paul Harris Said It:
"Rotary was born of the spirit of tolerance, goodwill and service, all qualities which characterized New England folks of my boyhood days, and I have tried to interpret, so far as lies within me, that faith to other men."
