On Friday, September 11, 2026, the Perrysburg Rotary Club had the extraordinary privilege of gathering at the 180th Fighter Wing to mark the 25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001.
We are deeply grateful to Rotarian Lt. Col. Diana Sluhan for making this meaningful visit possible and giving our Club the opportunity to gather, reflect, and remember this solemn day.
We were especially blessed to have Rotarian Veronica Mora lead our Club in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance as we began this important time together. Veronica’s connection to military service and sacrifice is deeply personal. Her husband, Arthur Mora, lost his life while serving our country. As a military spouse and widow, Veronica and her family have carried a sacrifice that made her presence and participation in today’s remembrance especially meaningful to our Rotary family.
Alongside Lt. Col. Matt Eck, our members learned more about the remarkable symbolism incorporated into the 180th Fighter Wing’s 9/11 Memorial.
The memorial was intentionally designed as a sundial, with its flagpole and steel beams positioned to preserve a moment in time. Each year on September 11th at 8:46 a.m., the moment the first plane struck the World Trade Center, the flagpole casts its shadow through steel beams from the World Trade Center.
The memorial also recognizes the four locations forever connected to the attacks of September 11th, the North Tower, South Tower, Pentagon, and Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
It is an incredibly powerful reminder of how a single moment in time changed our nation forever, and why, 25 years later, we continue to remember.
For our Rotary Club, Service Above Self takes on an even deeper meaning in a place like this surrounded by those who serve, remembering those we lost, and honoring the families who have also carried the weight of that service.
25 years later, we remember. We honor. We remain grateful.
