Join us this Friday, February 18th as we welcome our very own Rotarian, Mayor Tom Mackin.

Tom grew up in Avon Lake, Ohio, the fifth of nine children. After graduating from Avon Lake High School, Tom attended Muskingum College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in accounting, with minors in economics and communication. He also met his wife, Allison, while in college.

The Mackin's moved to Perrysburg in 1990 and raised their two children, Pete and Margy, here. Tom was an active dad, coaching numerous soccer, baseball, and basketball teams and also volunteering for his fair share of scouting and church programs. Both children graduated from Perrysburg High School before moving on to college.

Tom has been very involved in the Perrysburg community. He became a member of Perrysburg's Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee in 1998 and was appointed to fill a vacant Perrysburg City Council seat that same year. He won his first election the following year. Tom was re-elected to council four times. During his time on council, Tom served on a number of council committees. He served on the Finance, Economic Development, Service-Safety, Health Sanitation, Public Utilities, and Planning and Zoning Committees.

Tom chaired the Finance Committee the entire time he was on council. As chair of the Finance Committee, Tom reviewed and oversaw the City's budget. On the Service-Safety Committee, Tom worked with Perrysburg Police for more than nine (9) years to help ensure that their operations and policies best served the community and were consistent with the City's short and long-term needs.

While on council, Tom also represented Perrysburg on the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Government (TMACOG), serving on its Executive Committee and Board of Trustees. Tom now serves on its Board of Trustees.

In addition to involvement in City leadership, Tom has worked with many other Perrysburg organizations. He was a member of Perrysburg Alternative to Substance Abuse and became its chairman in 2000. He also joined the Board of the Fort Meigs YMCA and in 2010 became its chairman and a member of the Toledo YMCA Board of Trustees. He is a member of and volunteers with the Perrysburg Rotary and Saint John XXIII. For the past four years, Tom has also coached Perrysburg High School's 9th grade basketball team. (source)
